I am moving to versioning of Flate GIMP icon Theme. All the icons are now located in a icons folder in the "Decor" folder and all themes link to it instead of having their own set of icons.
Icons and gtk.rc files have been moved there to conserve data for you. This folder needs to be placed in your Themes directory in-order for V2 and on to work. You now will get along with the 8 icon themes a folder called "Decor". NOTES: 11-16-2014: I have completely rewrote these 8 themes. * Windows: Copy the Theme you want and the Decor folder into C:\Documents and Settings\\.gimp-2.4\themes or C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\themes\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\themes\ * Mac: Copy the Theme you want and the Decor folder into Aplications > Right Click Gimp and select Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources > Share > gimp > 2.0 > themes * Linux: Copy the Theme you want and the Decor folder into ~gimp-2.8/themes
zip and place it under the GIMP themes folder: If you do not already know about Jupiter Broadcasting and are a big nerd you should go check them out here or on their YouTube Channel here. Big thanks to them for letting me on the show. all of you really helped make this theme.Ĭheck out my interview with the Jupiter Broadcasting crew over on YouTube and here me talk about this theme. Jäger maker of the ProGimp theme for the idea of colored icons, maker of PsIcons themfor getting rid of tool box lable and help with gtkrc, for some help with making v2 of my theme, Mirek2's flat icon concept from LibreOffice and the GIMP dev team. Special thanks to maker of the DPixel theme for help with theme, maker of the minimo for small theme text, Eckhard M. I think that GIMP is an amazing program that many people don't even give a change because it does not look a pretty as Photoshop. I personally like Darker themes but others Like lite themes, many people asked for a smaller theme just like GIMP comes with so I made those to. I have heard it all over the web that GIMP is ugly and I wanted to change that. But if you’re usually happy with the default settings and you just got a bit out of your depth experimenting with themes or settings, this is a great way to put the pieces back together. The Flat GIMP icon Theme was created to modernize GIMP and keep people focused on their art. If you customize a lot of your GIMP settings, you’re going to want to use this as a last resort only. Fortunately, there’s a way to completely wipe all of your settings and start over with all the defaults GIMP uses the very first time you run it.
If you download a theme that doesn’t work properly, you might have a bit of trouble getting GIMP back to a usable state.
If you wanted to install the nicely-designed ClearLooks GIMP dark theme shown above, take a look at the installation instructions on the homepage and you’ll see what I mean – and that’s just for one theme!įeel free to explore what’s available – just be careful, because installing themes designed for older versions of GIMP might cause some wild and crazy results – or just not work at all. There are third-party theme engines that are required for some themes, which is a concept I’m not even sure I understand. If you want to explore your options or if you’ve changed the default look, here’s how you can customize your GIMP dark theme to your heart’s content.Īs a result, a user who’s more familiar with the App Store or Google Play Store will be blown away by the complexity involved in simply changing your GIMP theme – even as someone who’s used GIMP for years, I have to say I was a bit surprised myself. I leave the GIMP interface in the default configuration so that new users will be easily able to follow along with my screenshots, but there’s a wide range of theme and icon pairings available in GIMP so you don’t have to stick with the defaults unless they work best for you. A much darker theme became the default option, paired with a set of symbolic icons that you’ll recognize from my other guides on TGT. With the release of GIMP 2.10, the default interface changed dramatically. The recent interface design trend toward ‘dark mode’ options reduces eye strain and helps your content really “pop” from the interface, which is why you’ll find these themes in virtually every major image editing program released in the last 5 years. Customizing your GIMP interface is a rite of passage for any dedicated image editor.
